Touted as India’s next batting superstar, Shubman Gill has lived up to the expectations of fans and experts this year, especially in white-ball cricket.
The right-hander played a key role in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) IPL 2022 triumph and also did wonders for the national side.
Shubman Gill was the Player-of-the-Series in India’s ODI assignments in West Indies and Zimbabwe. Still in his early days, Gill has amassed 687 runs from 15 ODIs at a remarkable average of 57.25. He also has one hundred and four half-centuries to his name.
Impressed by his recent exploits, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh heaped praise on Gill, saying that the young batter is very hardworking and can do wonders in the next 10 years.
Notably, Yuvraj has observed Shubman from close quarters as the latter had honed skills under his watchful eyes during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.
"Shubman is very hardworking and is doing all the right things. I believe he is destined for greatness in the next 10 years," Yuvraj told PTI.
While Gill is not a part of the ongoing ODI series in Bangladesh, he featured in India’s second-string squad for the recently held white-ball tour of New Zealand.
"I think Shubman is doing very well and is performing consistently. I believe he is a strong contender to open for India in the 2023 World Cup," Yuvraj stated.
On a different note, Yuvraj Singh expressed his desire to work as a sports/cricket administrator.
"I can't say what will happen in future but if I can help in the growth of sports in the country, I wouldn't mind. But it is not just cricket but I will like to help in the growth of sports in this country," he said.
