The first Test between Australia and the West Indies saw the hosts’ two best batters Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith entering records both as individual batters and as a duo as well.
Australia declared their first innings at the Perth Stadium at 598/4 with Marnus scoring 204 with 20 fours and one six, while Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 200 with 17 fours. Also contributing to the score was Travis Head, who made 99 in 95 balls with 11 fours, and Usman Khawaja who made 65 runs.
Steve Smith equaled Sir Don Bradman’s record of 29 centuries and in the process passed the 4000-run mark at home. Only Bradman (98.22) and Sir Garfield Sobers (66.8) have better home averages than Smith's 64.53.
However, the pair of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne became the 17th pair in the history of Test cricket to score double centuries in the same innings of a Test match.

The very first pair to attain this record was Will Ponsford and Sir Don Bradman of Australia against England in the Oval Test of 1934 when Ponsford made 266 and Bradman scored 244.
Bradman features on the list twice, along with Javed Miandad, and also do the Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena.
Jayawardene and Sangakkara had broken multiple world records when they added 624 runs for the 3rd wicket against South Africa in Colombo in 2006. Jayawardene had made 374, while Sangakkara made 287 runs.
From India, there is one entry when Gautam Gambhir (206) and VVS Laxman (206*) attained the feat against Australia in the Delhi Test of the 2008 series.
