Former India chief selector Chetan Sharma has reapplied for the position in the All India Selectors Committee. Besides Chetan, Harvinder Singh, who was part of the selection panel from the Central Zone, also applied again for the post.
After India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 last month, BCCI decided not to extend their tenure for more years. In fact, fresh applications were invited and a new selection panel is set to be appointed in the coming weeks.
According to a report published in The Indian Express, more than 60 applicants have applied for the post, including Chetan and Harvinder.
The report further stated that the other two members of the erstwhile panel Sunil Joshi and Debashish Mohanty haven’t re-applied for the positions.
The Indian board reportedly hasn’t received applications from any big names except for a few former cricketers.
As per the report, current junior selection committee chairman S Sharath too has applied for the post. The other prominent names feature Venkatesh Prasad, Dodda Ganesh, Maninder Singh, Nikhil Chopra, Atul Wassan, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, Nayan Mongia, SS Das, Salil Ankola, Sameer Dighe, Ajay Ratra, Gyanendra Pandey, Jacob Martin, Subroto Banerjee and Iqbal Siddiqui.
Earlier, the BCCI released a statement where it revealed the criteria to apply for the position. As per the criteria, the applicants should have played 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches. The applicant should have retired from the game of cricket at least 5 years ago.
“No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee,” the BCCI stated.
The deadline to apply for the position is November 28.
