18-year-old uncapped leg-spiner Rehan Ahmed received his maiden call-up to the England Test team for the three-match Test series in Pakistan next month. Rehan is currently playing for the England Lions in a three-day warm-up match against the England Test team in Abu Dhabi.

Thanks to Rehan's impressive performances at the England red-ball training camp, the think tank included the young leg-spinner in the Test squad for the tour of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old cricketer has a chance to create history, as the all-rounder would become England’s youngest male Test player if he makes his Test debut on the Pakistan tour.

Born on August 13, 2004, Ahmed can break Brian Close's record to become England's youngest Test debutant. Notably, Close made his Test debut for England in July 1949 against New Zealand at the age of 18 years and 149 days.

As reported by Sky Sports, England Test coach Brendon McCullum said of Ahmed: “Ben (Stokes), myself, and the rest of the coaches like how he approaches his game. The experience of being part of the squad in Pakistan will be hugely beneficial for him, and he will add to the make-up of our squad.”

Notably, the young all-rounder has so far played only three first-class matches, where he has taken nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul, while scoring 195 runs with the best score of 122. The leg-spinner was the second-highest wicket-taker for England in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 played earlier this year with 12 wickets.

Rehan has also played seven List A matches so far, scoring 89 runs and taking 5 wickets, as well as scoring 100 runs and taking 21 wickets in 19 T20Is.

Here’s the England Test squad for Pakistan tour:

Ben Stokes (C), James Anderson, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes (WK), Will Jacks, Keaton Jennings, Jack Leach, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood, Rehan Ahmed
