The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently left the entire nation stunned by sacking the four-member National Selection Committee headed by Chetan Sharma after Team India’s failures to win recent multi-nation events, including the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2022.
Apart from the chief selector, Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Debashish Mohanty were the other members of the senior selection committee, who all came under the scanner for some controversial decisions and the Indian cricket team’s failure to win a major title in the last four years.
Well, now, veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has reacted to the BCCI’s shocking decision to sack the entire selection committee.
He said that it was quite surprising, but it offered new opportunities for the next committee. Notably, BCCI is yet to make any official announcement regarding the same but invited fresh applications for the roles.
Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz: “Very interesting development. I think none of us saw it coming. It is also an opportunity for the new selectors coming in and we have to see how things unfold.”
The veteran cricketer felt the term "sack" was a bit unfair as the term of the selectors was coming to an end while stressing how difficult it is to pick a 15-member team from a pool of 40 to 45 players.
Karthik signed off by saying, “I know this word 'sack' was used a lot, but I think their term was coming to an end as well. It is a tough job. Picking 15 players from a set of 40-45 players who are all good enough to represent the country it's not going to be easy. Credit to them. They have done a good job. The new selectors have some strong decisions to take.”
