Chetan Sharma was appointed chief selector in December 2020 | TwitterThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on November 18, 2022, invited fresh applications for the India men’s team selection panel after apparently sacking the current panel headed by Chetan Sharma in the aftermath of T20 World Cup 2022. Chetan Sharma had become the chief selector in December 2020

India failed to make it to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 and multiple selection decisions were one of the discussed reasons for the Men in Blue’s performance in the entire tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led team was humiliated by England in the semi-final at Adelaide by 10 wickets as they chased down the 169-run target without losing a wicket.

Even before the T20 World Cup 2022, it was being reported that the fate of the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel depended on India’s performance at the tournament and as a result of how India bowed out of the tournament, the BCCI decided to call for fresh applications for the selection panel.
