T20 World Cup 2022: Suryakumar Yadav strengthens No. 1 spot in ICC T20I batting rankings

Suryakumar Yadav | GettyIndia batter Suryakumar Yadav has taken the cricketing world by storm with his dazzling display in the ongoing T20 World Cup Down Under and it is reflecting in his rankings as well.

Having pipped Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan from the summit spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings, Suryakumar has consolidated his position at the top.

In the T20 World Cup 2022, Surya has amassed 225 runs in five innings at a remarkable average of 75 and an outstanding strike rate of 193.96, including three half-centuries. As a result, he has achieved a career-high rating of 869 points to continue as the number one batter in the shortest format.

In India's last group match, Suryakumar slammed 61 off 25 balls and he added six points in the weekly rankings update to go 39 points clear of second-placed Rizwan.

New Zealand's Devon Conway, 90 points clear of Yadav, occupies the third spot in the rankings chart while Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is a further seven points behind the Kiwi in fourth place.

Thanks to his half-centuries against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, India vice-captain KL Rahul have moved up five slots to 16th while Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma are 11th and 18th respectively.

In the bowling chart, India pacer Arshdeep has made notable progress, gaining four spots to attain the 23rd position.

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has jumped five places to 13th after picking up three wickets in India’s last Super 12 match against Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who is the leading wicket-taker of the ongoing T20 World Cup, has reclaimed the top spot in the bowling rankings.

Hasaranga, who picked 15 wickets during Sri Lanka's Super 12 finish in the T20 showpiece, ended Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan's reign at the top.

In the all-rounder's rankings, Zimbabwe's Sean Williams is the only new arrival in the top 10, while Shadab Khan of Pakistan jumped 10 places to 15. There is one new arrival in the top 10 of the rankings for bowlers too, with England's Adil Rashid rising to eighth, one spot behind his compatriot Sam Curran.
