Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine earns maiden West Indies call-up for Australia Tests

West Indies is all set to return to Australia in November to play a two-match Test series against the hosts following their embarrassing exit from the qualifying round of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Cricket West Indies on Saturday (October 29) announced a 15-member squad for this two-match Test series against Australia with the first Test set to be played on 30 November followed by the second and final Test from December 8 in Perth and Adelaide respectively.

For this Test series against Australia, son of legendary West Indies’ legendary Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Tagenarine was handed a maiden call-up to the national side.

He was rewarded for his efforts with the bat in domestic cricket and is now set to open the innings for the West Indies along with the skipper Kraigg Brathwaite after John Campbell was banned for four years for a doping violation.

West Indies lead selector Desmond Haynes stated:We have one newcomer to the team in Tagenarine Chanderpaul. He equipped himself very well in the West Indies Championship four-day matches and also did a very good job at the top of the order against Bangladesh A in Saint Lucia this summer. He has what it takes to do well at the highest level.”

Notably, Tagenarine has scored 2669 runs in 92 first-class matches with five centuries and 10 half-centuries. The young opener also amassed 439 runs at an average of 73.16 with a top score of 184 against Jamaica in the four-day championship in 2021-22.
