Babar Azam | GettyPakistan skipper Babar Azam turned 28 years old on October 15, 2022. Babar is currently in Australia to lead his national team at the T20 World Cup 2022 and his birthday turned out to be a special one this time around as all 16 captains celebrated it after attending a joint press conference.

To mark the occasion, Australian skipper Aaron Finch brought a special cake and then the captains of all the participating teams joined as Babar was left overwhelmed while cutting the cake.

On his birthday, Babar Azam revisited his journey and mentioned South Africa's tour of Pakistan in 2007 as a turning point.

"I started taking an interest in cricket from 2007. South Africa came to Pakistan and I became a ball boy. I used to walk to the stadium from Gulberg. As far as I remember, I was fasting that time at Ramadan. I used to keep my lunch and take it home," said Babar in a video posted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Twitter.

"I used to give knocking to our players as a ball boy, collect balls from the boundary. During that time, Inzamam played his last match for Pakistan. He needed two runs (3 runs) to break Javed bhai's record. But unfortunately, he got stumped.

"I noticed Inzamam carefully walking to the dressing room. I also remember Inzamam venting out inside the dressing room," he added.

Babar also revealed that he was a big fan of South African batting maverick AB de Villiers and admitted staying close to the Proteas side in order to take notice of what his idol was doing.

"During that time, I was very fond of AB de Villiers. I was overwhelmed after seeing him. I used to learn from him, what he was doing, how he was batting and fielding. I used to stay near the South African team to notice what De Villiers was doing. I used to get a lot of boost after seeing him," he said.
