Sourav Ganguly set to be back as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal

Before coming to the BCCI, Ganguly served as the CAB president for four years.

Sourav Ganguly | GettyOutgoing BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly on Saturday (October 15) confirmed that he will be back as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president after failing to retain his position at the country’s cricket board.

Ganguly was elected unopposed as the president of the board in November 2019. Before coming to the BCCI, he served as the CAB president for four years between 2015 to 2019.

“Yes, I will be contesting the CAB polls. I plan to file my nomination on 22 October. I have been in CAB for five years and as per Lodha Rules, I can continue for another four years,” Ganguly told PTI.

There were reports doing the rounds that Ganguly’s elder brother Snehasish would contest in place of Avishek Dalmiya for the top post, but the former India captain’s nomination changes a lot of equations.

“I will finalise my panel on 20 October. Let’s see,” Ganguly said.

Coming to Sourav Ganguly’s ouster as the BCCI president, there are reports that claim that he was offered the IPL chairmanship but he declined the offer by saying that he couldn’t head the board’s sub-committee, especially after heading the governing body.

On the other hand, reports also suggest that Ganguly had to relinquish his post as there is no precedence of anyone continuing in the top job for more than three years.
