The inaugural edition of the Global Power Cricket League (GPCL) T20 has caught everyone’s attention in the cricketing world. The tournament is currently being held in Delhi’s Yamuna Sports Complex Cricket Ground.
Marquee international cricketers from different parts of the world are featuring in the GPCL T20. There is a high quality of cricket on display, with players donning colourful jerseys matching their team name and the national team's colour.
The league, as part of the NRI Festival celebrations, has also ensured that each team has Indian diaspora youth participation along with other players of that particular country.
Power Sportz – the organiser and official broadcaster of GPCL T20 – is telecasting the action in 95 territories worldwide with HD cameras capturing the action, showing skills, emotions, celebrations, and aesthetic graphics to the fans with utmost perfection.
With the kind of interest the tournament has generated in just its inaugural year, the organisers are planning to take it to the next level in the subsequent editions.
Speaking to Circle of Cricket, Ms. Kanthi D Suresh, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Power Sportz, said the GPCL T20 will be more structured from the next season onwards.
“We want to create a banding structure globally for cricket to nurture talent in a better way,” Kanthi quoted.
“To ensure uniformity in global selection, we will spend the next 2 months with high level strategy meetings to create parameters for first class cricket or it's equivalent in all countries, followed by Zonal or competitive cricket and regional or club cricket. This will ensure better selection and systematic growth of young talent,” she added.
Talking about the GPCL T20, the eight participating teams will play three matches in the group stage before the top two sides from each group move into the semifinals, where the toppers of each pool will take on the second-placed side of the other pool.
The winners of the semifinal will square off in the final on October 9. The matches of the group stage will conclude on October 7 while the semifinals are slated to be held on October 8.
