The Global Power Cricket League (GPCL) might be in its early days, but the T20 tournament has left a lasting impression on the fans with action-packed matches.
As of today, a total of six games have been played with several top players from across the world showcasing their talent in a one-of-a-kind tournament.
Among the international stars, the likes of Ian Bell, Munaf Patel, Callum Ferguson, Kirk Edwards, Shaminda Eranga, and Robert Frylinck have featured in the GPCL T20 so far.
Following the GPCL regulations, the eight participating teams are also fielding players of Indian origin in their playing XI while also maintaining an average of 25. As a result, the organizers’ main objective of catering to the Indian diaspora global youth cricketers is being fulfilled.
Notably, India has the largest diaspora population in the world with 32 million people living outside the country. Thanks to GPCL, the youngsters are being able to display their T20 skills in front of a capacity crowd in Delhi’s Yamuna Sports Complex Cricket Ground.
No wonder, the Indian diaspora global youth cricketers are feeling grateful and blessed to have got an opportunity to rub shoulders with the leading names of world cricket.
Adil Ali, Akshay Homraj, Amrit Basra, Umang Sharma, Gurbaj Singh, Waseem Rahman, Seth Rajkumar, Aditya Adey are some of the notable Indian diaspora global youth cricketers appearing in the GPCL T20.
They consider it a lucky break and their biggest takeaway from the GPCL is getting a chance to play in India under floodlights against teams from different countries.
Amid the success, the organizer and official broadcaster of GPCL T20, Power Sportz, is extremely proud as their months of hard work and dedication are being appreciated by the players and fans.
Speaking to Circle of Cricket, Ms. Kanthi D Suresh, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Power Sportz, expressed her delight.
“The first requirement of any business is to fulfil a need that exists and we have done it through GPCL Global Power Cricket League,” Kanthi D Suresh, who seems ready already for GPCL Season 2, said.
Kanthi added that the Global Power Cricket League is here to stay and they are planning to take it outside India in the subsequent seasons.
“We are looking to make it an annual affair, and are also planning to organize it in Middle East, USA, Canada, UK, and South Africa from next year onwards,” she stated.
Talking about the GPCL T20, the eight participating teams have been divided into two groups. Indian Sapphires, English Reds, Scottish Mulberries, and American Indigos feature in Pool A whereas Australian Golds, South African Emeralds, Sri Lankan Violets, and Irish Olives are part of Pool B.
Every team will play three matches in the group stage before the top two teams from each group will move to the semi-final, where the toppers of each pool will take on the second-placed side of the other pool.
Ultimately, the winners of the semi-final will face each other in the final on October 9.
