India batter Suryakumar Yadav is having a run of a lifetime in T20I cricket in 2022 and as a result, he is inching closer to the no.1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings’ latest update on October 5, 2022. This update came after the three-match South Africa T20I series.
He finished the series with two half-centuries and was India's highest run scorer with a total of 119 runs. As a result, he has moved considerably closer to Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan, the number one ranked T20I batter in the world, intensifying the competition.
He now has 838 rating points with no.1 spot holder Mohammad Rizwan having 854 points. The 32-year-old should have the opportunity to take home the top spot at the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia owing to his recent impressive showing.
Rizwan had a great outing against England, finishing the 7-T20I series with 316 runs. On the other hand, England’s Dawid Malan moved to the 5th spot in the rankings.
Other main gainers from the India-South Africa T20Is were India opener KL Rahul, who jumped seven spots to 14th spot thanks to 108 runs from two matches, while South Africa trio Quinton de Kock (up eight spots to 12th), Rilee Rossouw (up 23 places to 20th) and David Miller (up 10 spots to 29th) were also notable movers up the list.
South African and English spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Adil Rashid both fall three spots inside the top 10. Although Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Adam Zampa all move up two slots apiece.
