Last year, Chand decided to quit Indian cricket at the age of 28. After retiring from Indian cricket, he became eligible to ply his trade around the world and shifted his base to USA, where he led Silicon Valley Strikers to the Minor League Cricket title.

Unmukt also became the first Indian male to join the Big Bash League (BBL) as Melbourne Renegades roped him in for the 2021-2022 season.

However, on Saturday (October 1), Chand sustained a horrific eye injury and opened up about the extent of his injury via Twitter.

"It’s never a smooth ride for an athlete. Some days you come home victorious, other days disappointed&there are some when you come home with bruises and dents.Grateful to God to have survived a possible disaster. Play hard but be safe. It’s a thin line. Thanku for the good wishes," he tweeted.

Unmukt Chand, who captained India to the U-19 World Cup title in 2012, had never made it to the senior Indian team but was part of three IPL franchises — Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. He has the experience of 67 First-Class matches and 120 List A games, having played in the Indian domestic circuit for more than a decade.
