American Indigos squad unveiled for the inaugural GPCL season

American Indigos will open their GPCL campaign against Indian Sapphires on October 2.

Logo of GPCL team American IndigosUSA cricket is set to receive a major boost as one T20 team from the country will set foot in India for the first time to take part in the upcoming Global Power Cricket League (GPCL).

The team, known as American Indigos, is one of the eight sides competing in the T20 tournament, which will be full of marquee international cricketers.

Former West Indies cricketer Narsingh Deonarine, who has the experience of 18 Tests, 31 ODIs and 8 T20Is, will lead American Indigos in the GPCL, aspiring to cater to the Indian diaspora population.

Notably, India has the largest diaspora population in the world with 32 million people living outside the country. This large cricket starved population yearns to have the sport played in their country of stay.

While the inaugural edition of GPCL is set to be held in Delhi from October 2 to October 9, the league will move to Middle East, USA, Canada, UK, and South Africa in the coming years.

American Indigos’ squad also includes the Gujarat-born Timil Patel, who has represented USA in 7 ODIs and as many T20Is so far. Patel was also part of the India U-19 side in 2002. Before migrating to USA in June 2010, he also featured in India’s domestic circuit.

The 13-member squad also features Mrunal Patel, Mario Rampersaud, Akshay Homraj, Anirudh Immanuel, Skanda Rohit Sharma, Ruchir Joshi, Karan Chandel, Suneel Kumar Sunny, Bhaskar Ahuja, Raahil Amarshi Krishna, Rahul Mishra.

For the first-ever GPCL season, American Indigos are slotted in Pool A alongside Indian Sapphires, English Reds and Scottish Mulberries.

American Indigos will open their campaign against Indian Sapphires on October 2.
