India batter-keeper Dinesh Karthik has lauded his Tamil Nadu teammate Baba Indrajith who has been phenomenal with the bat for South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy tournament.
He scored a brilliant 118 for his team, digging them out of trouble against West Zone who had scored 270 with Het Patel making 98 and Jaydev Unadkat making 47*. R Sai Kishore picked 5/86 and Basil Thampi and C Stephen took 2 wickets each.
South Zone found themselves in a bit of trouble when Indrajith took charge, making 118 in 125 balls with 14 fours to his name. Manish Pandey made 48, while K Gowtham made 43 runs as South Zone made 310/7 at the time of writing this piece.
Impressed with Indrajith's crucial ton, India wicketkeeper and his teammate Dinesh Karthik lauded him on Twitter and sounded confident of an India call-up for the 28-year-old batter.
He tweeted: "Yet another High quality 100 from a terrific player in a highly intense Duleep trophy final. What a terrific first-class record so far. India call round the corner. Well played indutta. @IndrajithBaba."
Before this match, Baba Indrajith scored 3865 runs from 57 matches at an average of 52.94 in First-Class cricket. Since the start of 2016, he has scored over 2512 runs in 33 games at an average of more than 66. No India batter has an FC average better than Indrajith since the beginning of 2016 and adds to it the fact that he can keep wickets, he ticks all the boxes for an India call-up.
He had also scored 396 runs in 3 matches in Ranji Trophy 2021-22 including back-to-back centuries – 117 against Delhi and 127 against Chhattisgarh. He was picked by KKR at the IPL 2022 auction and ended up playing three matches, scoring 21 runs.
