Usain Bolt | GettyJamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is a legendary figure in the world of sports. While he has won accolades for his exploits in field and track events, the 36-year-old has always had an inclination towards cricket.

An eight-time Olympic gold medallist, Bolt has admitted in the past that cricket was his first love but he chose athletics as a career option because of his father’s advice.

Last year, the retired sprinter had expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Bolt’s IPL dream is yet to be fulfilled, he might relish his cricketing aspiration in the near future.

According to sources, the Jamaican legend has been invited by Power Sportz, India's first live digital Sports channel, to take part in the upcoming Global Power Cricket League (GPCL), due to be played in Delhi from October 2 to October 9.

Talking about the GPCL, it will be a T20 event featuring eight teams from different countries. With this tournament, the organisers aim to take cricket global so that the Asian Diaspora population, addicted to this sport, residing outside of their nation can watch the game live in their country of stay.

While the first season of GPCL is being held in India under the NRI festival, it will be staged in Middle East, USA, Canada, UK, and South Africa going forward.

Coming to Usain Bolt, the prospect of him playing professional cricket can throw a different challenge altogether as he will be competing alongside marquee international cricketers like Munaf Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Gulbadin Naib, Ian Bell, Callum Ferguson, Kirk Edwards among others.

The Jamaican legend will have to back his sprinting skills with cricketing acumen if he wants to excel in the GPCL.

If the deal gets closed, it will be interesting to see the role Usain Bolt would fit in for his GPCL team. Considering his gigantic height (6 ft 5 in), he can play the role of a fast bowler. In fact, he was a fast bowler while growing up and used to idolize Pakistan pace legend Waqar Younis.
