Young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s place in India’s T20I team has come under threat ever since Dinesh Karthik made his comeback to the national side after his outstanding performance in the IPL 2022 with the bat.
However, Pant and Karthik have both been picked in the T20I squad in many series, including the recent Asia Cup 2022 and now in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, but they haven’t featured together in the line-up.
While many feel Karthik should get the nod ahead of Pant in T20Is, Aakash Chopra predicted that the young cricketer has a bright future in the shorter format of the game ahead.
Chopra also predicted that Pant could also become the India captain in T20I cricket in the coming years while calling him an extremely talented cricketer.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel about Pant’s future in T20Is: “I feel the future will be great. He might become the Indian captain in T20 cricket going forward. He will be that maverick people will be scared of. He will play in a bold fashion.”
He added, “But at this point in time, the truth is that he is still figuring out whether he should do this or that, whether he should hit or play cautiously, whether he will get dropped if he gets out while trying to hit.”
Chopra signed off by saying, “He has done all of that, but this happens when you are young and extremely talented, and the expectation is that the guy will come and hit. So at times, he feels obliged that he has to hit but gets out while doing that. So it is a big problem.”
