Nepal cricket team captain and star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been accused of rape by a minor girl in Kathmandu. On September 7, Nepal Police confirmed that they have started an investigation over an alleged rape complaint against Lamichhane after a complaint was lodged by a 17-year-old minor girl.
Nepal Police said in a statement that the victim claimed that the star leg-spinner raped her twice in a hotel on August 21 in her complaint at the Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle.
According to the complaint, the teenage girl said that she was a fan of the Nepali cricketer, and she used to talk to him via WhatsApp and Snapchat. She further revealed that Lamichhane asked her to meet on the eve of the Nepal cricket team’s departure to Kenya on August 22, and she agreed.
The minor girl further claimed that she had to spend a night with the leg-spinner at a hotel in Pingalasthan, outside Kathmandu, as her hostel closed at 8 p.m., and during their stay, the cricketer drugged and raped her twice.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police said in a statement to ANI on Wednesday (September 7): “Nepal Police starts investigation over alleged rape complaint against Nepali national Cricket team Captain Sandeep Lamichhane, after a minor aged 17 lodged the case.”
