Suresh Raina announces retirement from all formats of cricket

Raina had gone unsold at the IPL mega-auction earlier this year.

Raina’s decision comes after going unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year. The southpaw was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad till last year. In fact, he was associated with CSK since the inception of IPL in 2008 barring the two years when the franchise was banned.

Taking to Twitter, Raina confirmed his decision, stating: “It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of Cricket. I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities.”

Suresh Raina had called time on his India career on 15th August 2020, minutes after MS Dhoni announced his international retirement.

Raina made his India debut against Sri Lanka in an ODI in Dambulla on July 30, 2005. While he got out on first-ball duck in his maiden international appearance, the left-hander went on to establish himself as one of India’s leading white-ball cricketers.

Raina represented the country in 226 ODIs, amassing 5615 runs at an average of 35.15 with 5 hundreds and 36 half-centuries. He also featured in 78 T20Is, scoring 1605 runs at a strike-rate of 134.87, including 1 ton and 5 fifties.

Raina also played a key role in CSK’s four IPL title wins. He is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5,528 runs from 205 games. For CSK, he has scored 4,687 runs.
