Former India captain Virat Kohli and former head coach Ravi Shastri complemented each other greatly and shared a great bond with each other, thanks to their similar temperament and demeanor, which brought a lot of success to Indian cricket, except an ICC trophy.

However, ever since Sourav Ganguly took the reins of Indian cricket after being named as BCCI President, things started to fall apart, especially for Kohli after Shastri decided to not renew his contract.

Eventually, Ganguly brought in Rahul Dravid as India's head coach last year, and former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria said it could be the reason behind Kohli's decision to leave the captaincy, and since the change in the team, the right-hander’s numbers went only deep down.

Kaneria told News 18 Cricketnext: “Virat Kohli went very well with coach Ravi Shastri and he had a very good bonding with him. He (Shastri) used to back him. But now after the developments of Sourav Ganguly who came in and then Rahul Dravid coming from NCA, he didn’t had a very good time.”

He further explained, “Anil Kumble was one of the finest spinners of India and he performed at the highest levels, but he didn’t had good ties with Kohli. Both Kumble and Dravid are from Bangalore, south of India, and both are like high-structured cricketers.

They are like pretty big big guns and Rahul Dravid has done so well for Team India. He got under-19 cricketers winning tournaments for Team India, but he was not going that well with Virat Kohli because Virat Kohli is like—‘If I want to do it, I will do it.'”

Kaneria signed off by opining on India’s current captain Rohit Sharma: “Rohit was a bit calm, winning five championships for Mumbai Indians.”
