Trent Boult hopes his Test career not over after giving up central contract

Trent Boult hopes his Test career not over after giving up central contract

The left-arm pacer recently gave up his central contract.

Trent Boult | GettyEarlier this month, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to release senior pacer Trent Boult from its player contract list, allowing him to spend more time with his family and feature in domestic leagues around the globe.

The 33-year-old requested to be released and after a series of conversations, the cricket board accepted his request.

Since then, Boult has featured in the white-ball series against West Indies while the left-arm pacer has been named in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

Now, Boult hopes that he will be picked in the Test squad as well despite being relinquished from the central contract

"I hope not," said Boult, as quoted by Stuff.co.nz, when asked whether he might have played his final Test.

"But I'm fully aware that with the decision I made to give that contract back, it's going to affect that selection. I'm taking it almost week by week really. There's a lot of cricket to be played before then. I know the next series is in Pakistan and then at my home ground against England in the new year, but it's too far away to tell. I'm going to leave that with New Zealand Cricket and respect their decision," he added.

Trent Boult, who has represented New Zealand in 78 Tests, 96 ODIs, and 46 T20Is so far, also expressed his desire to play the 2023 World Cup in India.

"I remember talking to Kane after 2019 at Lord’s and saying we want to be there in four years' time. It's only a few months around the corner and there's a lot of hunger to try to have another crack at that trophy," he remarked.
