Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has found himself in hot water over his gesture during the Southern Brave vs. Oval Invincibles match in the ongoing The Hundred 2022 on August 14.
After being dismissed by the Oval Invincibles’ Pakistani pacer Hasnain, Stoinis made a throwing gesture to his team while walking back to the pavilion, indicating that the bowler was chucking.
This led to Southern Brave all-rounder being heavily criticized by many, especially Pakistani cricketers and fans, as Hasnanin’s bowling action was cleared by the ICC after the 22-year-old worked on it after being called for an illegal bowling action in the BBL earlier this year.
Now, legendary Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar slammed Stoinis while terming his gesture as "shameful" on Twitter on Tuesday (August 16). He questioned how the Aussies could do such things while lashing out at the ICC for remaining silent on the matter.
Akhtar wrote on Twitter: “Shameful gesture by @MStoinis regarding bowling action of @MHasnainPak during #TheHundred2022. How dare you do such things?? Of course @ICC stays quiet about them. No player should be allowed to do such things if someone’s been cleared already.”
After being reported in the BBL for his action, Hasnain went to the Lahore University of Management Sciences, which confirmed that his action breached the ICC’s 15-degree limit for elbow extension after Hasnain underwent biomechanics tests in January. The bowler has since been declared fit to bowl again after undergoing remedial work.
