One of my best innings in the one-day format – Pujara rates his 79-ball 107 for Sussex against Warwickshire

Pujara expressed his disappointment at not being able to get the job done for his team.

Cheteshwar Pujara | GettyKnown for his steady approach while batting, India’s Cheteshwar Pujara on Friday (August 12) grabbed the headlines with his swashbuckling century for Sussex against Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2022 at Edgbaston.

While chasing the target of 311, Pujara came out to bat at No. 4. The right-hander looked in ominous touch from the word go as he hit boundaries regularly to keep his team in the hunt.

Pujara, who was leading Sussex on Friday, notched up his hundred in just 73 balls and in the process, he smashed medium pacer Liam Norwell for 22 runs in the 45th over.

Pujara was eventually dismissed for 79-ball 107 in the first ball of the 49th over by Oliver Hannon-Dalby as Sussex finished at 306/7, losing the match by four runs. His attacking knock was studded with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Speaking after the game, Pujara said it was one of his best knocks in the 50-over format but expressed his disappointment at not being able to get the job done for his team.

"Well, it was one of the best innings in the ODI format. If it was on the winning note, it would have been better. We were not too far. I wanted to be there till the last. If I didn't get out, we had a little more chance of winning the game," Pujara said while speaking to the official YouTube channel of Sussex.

Pujara also revealed that he felt pukish during the knock on a hot day in Birmingham.

"I was hydrating in between. There was a time when I was feeling a little pukish. I am used to playing in hot weather but it's never enough, it's not easy to get used to the heat," he added.

Cheteshwar Pujara was prolific for Sussex in County Championships Division Two, amassing 1094 runs, including 5 hundreds in 8 matches. He continued his stunning red-ball form into the Royal London One-Day Cup, slamming a fifty and a hundred so far.
