Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has backed Arshdeep Singh by saying that the left-arm seamer would be in his team for the T20 World Cup 2022.
Ever since Arshdeep made his debut for India in T20Is, the seamer has caught the limelight with his impressive bowling. Not only he has bowled sensationally in the powerplays but has restricted runs in the death overs as well.
Arshdeep's heroics have been lauded by many and they feel that he should play for India in the upcoming marquee tournaments. After his exploits in his debut match against England last month, he carried his good form in the ongoing T20 series against West Indies.
It’s fair to say that he has looked the most settled Indian bowler in this series and has delivered for his side whenever his captain has asked him to.
His performance might have even booked his place in the Indian side for the T20 World Cup. With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the side, he could be the third pacer in the team.
Ravi Shastri feels that Arshdeep should make it into India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. He said that being the left-arm pacer he will be an ‘ideal foil’ for the team with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami.

"I think very close to it because India needs variety (on Arshdeep’s chances). And in Australia, left-armers normally do a good job. There is bounce and the angle that he creates. He will be an ideal foil when you look at the Indian attack. It should have Bhuvi, Jasprit, Shami, and then if you put him in the mix and all you might know is that he might play in one of the games given the opportunity," Ravi Shastri said to Fancode.
Shastri said that he will pick Arshdeep in his side as the only left-arm pacer along with the main pacers. He also believes that Shami will also get a nod ahead.
"Main toh lunga usko. Main variety ke liye lunga aur jisko baithna hoga bahar woh baith sakte he. If there are four pacers picked there, I would pick three right-armers, one left-armer and one all-rounder, which is Hardik Pandya. Jasprit and Bhuvi are certainties, and I feel Shami will get the nod,” he said.
Arshdeep yet again made many laud him with his performance in the fourth T20I. He took three wickets and returned with the figures of 3/12 to help his side take an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the series.
