“Maybe I lack something”, Shikhar Dhawan not disappointed by his T20I non-selection

Dhawan is getting overlooked from the T20I side for quite a while.

Shikhar Dhawan | GettyShikhar Dhawan’s career as an Indian cricketer has become a topic of discussion as he has lost his Test spot back in 2018 and getting overlooked from the T20I side for quite a while.

The southpaw is being picked only in the ODI squad and with Team India playing relatively less 50-over matches lately, Dhawan’s future seems uncertain at times.

Despite amassing over 500 runs in the 2020 and 2021 IPL editions, Dhawan couldn’t find a place in the T20 World Cup squad last year and he is still not a part of India’s T20I scheme of things.

However, the 36-year-old is not losing sleep over his exclusion from the shortest format.

"To be honest. I don't feel any disappointment as such. I feel that there is a time for everything and maybe it's not my time. Maybe I lack something that I haven't been able to do too well. So worries, I gave my best and that's what matters. Till the time I am happy and content that is all I care about. It's not like if my name doesn't come, I will be affected or anything like that. I am in a very good space; I am doing my best," Dhawan told Sports Tak.

Recently, Shikhar Dhawan led India to a 3-0 ODI series win over West Indies away from home. He registered scores of 97, 13 and 58 in the three games.

The left-hander has also been given the reasonability to lead the 50-over team in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. However, it will be interesting to see whether Dhawan gets picked in the Asia Cup 2022 squad on August 8.

"If the opportunity provides then why not? When I play the IPL, I try my best to perform. And if I do well there, I might get chances. Rest is up to the selectors… what their thought process is, what is their vision. Like I said, if it comes, great, but even if it doesn't, that's also fine. I am keeping myself fit and strong and whenever I get the opportunity, I am ready for it," he added.

The Asia Cup, in a T20 format, will be played in UAE from August 27 to September 11.
