Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has been getting consistent opportunities in India’s T20I team ever since he made his comeback on the back of his stunning show in the IPL 2022, and Parthiv Patel hailed the Indian team management’s decision to persist with him.

However, the former India wicketkeeper-batter was surprised by the absence of Mohammad Shami in the T20I team, as the senior bowler hasn’t played a T20I since the T20 World Cup 2021.

He went on to say that if Karthik is consistently given chances, why is Shami not? The pacer has also had an impressive outing with the current champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2022.

Parthiv Patel said on Cricbuzz: “When Bhuvi (Bhvneshwar Kumar) is playing, he has to bowl 2 overs upfront. Then there's Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. I am still surprised why they are not considering Mohammed Shami as a new ball bowler. Harshal Patel has done well.”

The commentator continued, “But if you look at Dinesh Karthik's performance in IPL, he got picked for India. Mohammed Shami's performance in the IPL was even better, as a bowler. He won them the trophy; he picked wickets for Gujarat Titans. It may not be a bad choice.”

He signed off by saying, “Yes, it might be the same team as the T20 World Cup last year, but these guys have become better. Bhuvi has become better from the last World Cup, same with Shami. He is bowling well with the new ball. We say that Shami hasn't bowled well in death overs, but he has improved that at Punjab and Gujarat (in IPL).”
