Virat Kohli was rested from the ongoing tour of West Indies | GettyMany were surprised to not see former India captain Virat Kohli’s name in the Men in Blue squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe given the dearth of runs in his kitty in the past year or so. There was speculation that Kohli might play for India against Zimbabwe to get back into form against minnows.

Since his return to international action following the IPL 2022, Kohli has registered the highest score of 20 in six innings across all formats. The former India captain was rested for the West Indies tour entirely.

And now, PTI has reported that Virat Kohli spoke with the BCCI selectors and told them about his availability. Kohli told the selectors that he will be available to play for the Indian team from Asia Cup onwards given the packed schedule the national team has thereafter.

"Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till the end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after Windies tour when they can rest," a source told PTI.

India will play the Asia Cup in UAE in August-September and then will face off against Australia in three T20Is in September. Next India will face South Africa in a series of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs in September-October before flying to Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022.

The Asia Cup 2022 has been shifted to UAE from Sri Lanka and will be played between August 27 and September 11, 2022.
