Former India cricketer Sreesanth said that India would have won three World Cups if he had played in the team led by Virat Kohli.
Kohli no doubt took Indian cricket to great heights during his captaincy tenure. But he failed to win any ICC trophy as a skipper, which remains one of the achievements he would’ve wanted in his career.
On the other hand, Sreesanth, who won T20 World Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011, was among the fiercest pacers India has produced. Known for his aggression, he won India many matches but spot-fixing controversy in IPL marred his career and he never made a comeback.
Speaking during the live chat with his fans as part of the new season of CricChat on the ShareChat Audio Chatroom, Sreesanth said that had he played under Kohli’s captaincy, India would’ve won World Cups in 2015, 2019 and 2021.
“If I would have been a part of the team under Virat’s captaincy, India would have won the World Cup in 2015, 2019 & 2021," Sreesanth said.
Sreesanth also went on to highlight how practicing bowling yorkers made him master at that. He revealed his coach taught him how to bowl with tennis balls.
“It is important to visualize while playing and small regions do not make any difference. Rather it is better to learn such tricks here, given there are a few distractions. My coach taught me how to throw Yorkers with tennis balls. If you ask Bumrah, he’ll say that it is easy too,” he said.
Sreesanth, who was part of the Indian team that won the World Cup 2011 at home, said that they did it for batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.
“We won that World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar,” he said.
Earlier this year, he called time on his career. He represented India in 27 Tests and 53 ODIs where he took 87 and 75 wickets respectively. He also has seven wickets from 10 T20 Internationals to his name.
