Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday (July 2) issued the NOC (No Objection Certificate) to veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, who ended his 15-year association with the state side after a run-in with the CAB officials.

The 37-year-old had opted out of the Ranji Trophy 2022 league stage citing 'personal reasons' after he was axed from the Indian Test side for the home series against Sri Lanka in February.

Subsequently, CAB assistant secretary Debabrata Das questioned his commitment, which infuriated Saha.

After his impressive exploits in the ongoing IPL for Gujarat Titans, Saha was picked for the Ranji quarterfinal that further annoyed him as he was not consulted before being selected. Ultimately, he decided to part ways with his state team.

"Mr Wriddhiman Saha came to CAB and in an application to President Avishek Dalmiya sought the NOC from the association," the CAB stated.

"CAB gave concurrence to the request of Mr Saha and provided the NOC to him for playing for another state. CAB also wished him the very best for his future endeavours," it added.

According to a PTI report, Saha was last in discussion for a player-cum-mentor role with Tripura but it hasn’t been finalized yet.

"There has been no development so far after he asked for an exorbitant fee apart from the regular match fees (Rs 2.4 lakh per match)," PTI quoted a top official as saying.

"Tripura is currently mired in problems between two faction groups and there is an ongoing case in the High Court against the current establishment. Elections are due in September."

Having made his domestic debut in 2007, Wriddhiman Saha has featured in 122 first-class and 102 List A games. He has also represented India in 40 Tests and 9 ODIs.
