Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah revealed that the proposal to bring back Afro-Asia Cup will get the final nod in the ACC meeting this July, meaning India and Pakistan players will be seen playing for the same team in the tournament.

The Afro-Asia Cup has not been played since 2007 after relations between India and Pakistan soured. But the BCCI Secretary and ACC President, Shah, is making all possible efforts to revive the 50-over series.

Notably, Mahela Jayawardena led an Asia XI featuring players from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to a 3-0 win against an African side comprising cricketers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.

Jay Shah told Reuters:We have gone through some proposals on this subject. It is a premium tournament that will not only generate revenue but also help develop cricket in Africa. We are currently working on the legal aspects.”

The ACC will finalize a venue for the Afro-Asia Cup on the sidelines of the upcoming ICC annual general meeting in Birmingham. The ACC will also look for approval for its development programs for junior and women's cricket at the ICC meeting.

Shah signed off by saying, “These will be tabled during our meeting where these measures will be ratified and put into action.”
