Babar Azam has been on a record-breaking spree with the bat in recent times. On Wednesday (June 29), the Pakistan skipper added another feather to his cap as he set a new T20I record by holding on to the top spot for the longest period of time in ICC Men's T20I Rankings for batters.
Babar has now been at the top of the T20I batting rankings for the maximum period, surpassing Kohli's record of 1013 days.
"The Pakistan skipper is currently rated as the No.1 batter in T20Is and ODIs and recently suggested he was keen to try and claim top billing in all three formats of the game," the ICC said in its report.
In the ICC T20I batting rankings, Babar Azam occupies the top spot with 818 rating points while Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is at the second position with 794 rating points.
In the only T20I he played this year, Babar slammed 66 off 46 balls against Australia while he aggregated 939 runs in 29 games last year, playing a vital role in Pakistan reaching the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in UAE.
Ishan Kishan is the only Indian to feature in the top 10 of ICC T20I batting rankings. The southpaw holds the seven spot following the home T20I series against South Africa and the two-T20I tour of Ireland. While Kishan finished the South Africa series as the leading run-scorer with 206 runs from 5 innings, he registered the scores of 26 and 3 in the two T20Is against Ireland.
Ireland young gun Harry Tector moves up a massive 55 places to 66th following his impressive series with the bat against India, while Deepak Hooda jumps a whopping 414 spots to equal 104th overall. Tector finished the series with 103 runs to his name, whereas Hooda produced knocks of 47* and 104.
