Before the start of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), fans were shocked when Ravindra Jadeja took over as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper from MS Dhoni, who had led the franchise since the inaugural edition of the IPL.
Jadeja, 33, didn’t have a good start to his captaincy stint with the side winning just two out of the first eight games. Subsequently, he decided to relinquish the post, once again handing over the captaincy to Dhoni.
CSK eventually finished the season in the 9th position on the points table featuring 10 teams. They managed to register only four wins from 14 league matches.

As a leader, Jadeja may not have been up to the mark in the IPL 2022 but England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who also plays for CSK, has backed him to come good in the future.
“He’s (Jadeja) inexperienced in terms of captaincy and leading CSK was tough for him this year because we weren’t playing well as a team. But he has got a good brain and he potentially could be a good leader in the future,” Moeen said while speaking to Sports Today.
According to Moeen, there isn’t much difference between Dhoni and Eoin Morgan in terms of characteristics.
“I have played under him. I have played under MS Dhoni as well. There is not much difference between both of them in terms of the characteristics - very calm, very loyal to their players. Brilliant captain, brilliant player,” he added.
On Tuesday (June 28), England’s white-ball skipper Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.
Morgan, who captained England to the 2019 World Cup title, finished as England’s all-time leading run-scorer in ODI and T20 cricket with 6,957 and 2,458 runs respectively. His tally of 225 ODI appearances and 115 in T20Is are also England records.
Commenting on Morgan, Moeen Ali said: “We were horrendous in white ball cricket before that (2015 World Cup). He changed the mindset of the players. Actually, the way England are playing now in Test cricket, I believe, is actually because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now."
