Eoin Morgan has backed Jos Buttler to become England's white-ball skipper, saying that he has the respect of the team as a leader. On Tuesday, June 28, Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket.

As per reports in British media, Jos Buttler is next in line to take over from Morgan, who had captained England since the 2015 World Cup and won the 2019 World Cup at home.

The 35-year-old told Sky Sports News after his retirement that the wicketkeeper will not be impacted by taking on the role because he has already done it in his absence before.

"He's done it before, on tours that I've missed or been injured for. He's come straight in and that is a true test of how you hold the weight of each and every decision and how it impacts your performance. The evidence is there that it has never affected Jos," said Morgan to Sky Sports.

The former skipper added that Buttler had been an amazingly effective deputy for him and deserves the group's respect as a leader.

"Jos has been in charge, he's been an unbelievably good vice-captain while I've been captain, and when he's stepped in he's been an exceptional leader. He obviously commands himself with the bat as one of the best players in the world, but also as a leader within the group, he commands tremendous respect," Morgan said.

Morgan also declined to coach the national squad in the future, claiming that he would have something to contribute. Morgan clarified that, for him, choosing the job would be the most crucial step.

"I've certainly not ruled it out. Certainly, down the line, I think I'd have something to offer, but I think picking and choosing what the role is, and what that looks like, will be the most important part," added Morgan.
