Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif shared his thoughts on the likely winner of the Asia Cup 2022. He said that winning against India in the T20 World Cup 2021 has raised hopes for Pakistan to win.

The Asia Cup 2022 is slated to begin on 27th August in Sri Lanka. The tournament will be played in the T20I format. Although the schedule for the tournament is yet to be announced, the final will be played on 11th September.

The tournament mostly is popular because arch-rivals India and Pakistan clash with each other. Since the two nations don’t lock horns with each other due to political tensions, they play only in multi-nation tournaments.

After the T20 World Cup 2021 clash, both India and Pakistan will play in the upcoming Asia Cup. Many fans and pundits have started to pick their favourite for the clash.

While some say that the Rohit-led side being the most consistent side in Asia Cup will win, many say that Pakistan, who thumped India in their last encounter, will have an edge over India.

Rashid said that based on the current form, Pakistan is likely to win the Asia Cup 2022. He said that victory against arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup 2021 has increased hopes for the Babar Azam-led side.

“India is no doubt a good team but there’s no example of the way Pakistan is currently playing cricket. Pakistan has players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan who are currently named as the best players by ICC

“I am hopeful for Pakistan to win Asia Cup 2022. The victory against India in the recent T20 World Cup 2021 has increased hopes for Pakistan. No doubt other teams are also competitive but the main competition in AsiaCup 2022 would be between India and Pakistan,” Rashid Latif was quoted as saying by the Cricket Pakistan website.

Coming to head to head ties in Asia Cup, India has the upper hand as they have a lead of 8-5 against their arch-rivals in 15 ties.
