Discarded India keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who had a fallout with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is reportedly in negotiations with Tripura for a possible player-cum-mentor role.
The 37-year-old veteran, who had a wonderful run with the bat for the IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans, had refused to play the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, especially after it was communicated to him by the BCCI selectors and India team head coach Rahul Dravid that he will no longer be considered for Test team again.
"He wants a role of being the player-cum-mentor for Tripura. He has been in talks with some Apex Council members in Tripura but nothing has been finalized yet. He has to first get a clearance (no-objection-certificate) from the CAB and then the BCCI and then it will be taken forward," told the official.
CAB joint-secretary Debabrata Das had made some negative remarks about Saha's decision and had also questioned his commitment, and he was then named in the state squad for the Ranji Trophy knockouts against Jharkhand team without consulting him, which annoyed the wicketkeeper-batter.
The veteran wicketkeeper decided to take a bold stand, and reportedly demanded an apology from Das. Later, he also made it clear that he would not play for Bengal again.
