SL v AUS 2022: Kumar Dharmasena trolled as picture of him attempting to take a catch in 3rd ODI goes viral

The five-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Australia was levelled at 1-1 before the start of the third ODI. Sri Lanka clashed with the visitors in the third ODI of the series in Colombo on Sunday (June 19).

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Australia reached a score of 291/6 in 50 overs, with skipper Finch (62), Travis Head (70*), and Glenn Maxwell (33 off just 18 balls) making major contributions with the bat.

During the innings, though, things took a lighter turn when umpire Kumar Dharmasena, who was standing at square leg, almost caught the ball after Alex Carey lofted it towards him. He eventually relented and let the ball run its course.

Cricket Australia reserved a witty tweet for the umpire. “Catch! Umpire Kumar Dharmasena looks like he wants to get into the action... Thankfully he didn't.”

On the back of Pathum Nissanka's spectacle (137) and Kusal Mendis' unflustered 87 off 85 balls, the home side reached the target with 9 balls to spare. 

The 4th ODI will be played on Tuesday (June 21) at the same venue.
