Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Rahul Tewatia on Thursday (16th June) expressed his disappointment after not getting selected in the Indian squad for the T20I series against Ireland.
BCCI on Wednesday (June 15) named a 17-member squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series. With senior players being rested to prepare for the England Test, there was an opportunity for many youngsters including Rahul Tripathi, who received his maiden call-up.
The squad will be led by Hardik Pandya with Bhuvneshwar Kumar being his deputy and Sanju Samson along with Suryakumar Yadav, who was out due to injury, were also recalled to the team. Some prominent names failed to cut into the side despite their stunning performances in the recently held IPL season.

One among them was Rahul Tewatia. The southpaw had a brilliant campaign in the IPL 15 as he pulled off some incredible chases for his side. He scored 217 runs at a strike rate of 147.62 in 16 matches.
After the Indian squad for the Ireland series was released, Tewatia took to his official Twitter account and reacted as his name didn’t feature in the 17-member team, citing that expectations always hurts.
“Expectations hurts,” Rahul Tewatia Tweeted.
Although Tewatia was named in the Indian squad for the T20I series against England in 2021, he is yet to make his debut for the team. After that, he failed the fitness test twice and was never selected. So far in 103 T20s, the southpaw has scored 1387 runs at a strike rate of 143.7. With the ball, he has picked 54 matches at a decent economy of 7.57.
