Australia women's team captain Meg Lanning and the late Shane Warne have been bestowed with honours in the annual Queen's Birthday List.

Lanning, who led Australia to ODI World Cup triumph earlier this year, has been awarded Member of the General Division (AM) for her immense contribution to women's cricket at the highest level.

On the other hand, Warne received his first Australian state honour posthumously after being named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).

After taking charge of the Australian women’s cricket team at the age of 21 back in 2014, Lanning has led her country to three T20 World Cup titles as well as three Ashes victories in 2015, 2019 and 2021-22. She has also led the side to a record-breaking 26-match ODI winning streak

Widely deemed as the greatest spinner to have played the game, Shane Warne died of a suspected heart attack earlier this year at the age of 52.

Warne represented Australia in 145 Tests, claiming 708 wickets at an average of 25.42 with 37 five-wicket hauls. He also picked up 293 wickets in 194 ODIs and played a key role in Australia’s 1999 World Cup triumph.

In 2000, Wisden Cricketers' Almanack recognized Shane Warne’s achievements by naming him as one of its five cricketers of the 20th century.
