“The way he is getting out….” RP Singh has his take on Virat Kohli’s form

The star batter struggled for runs in the IPL 2022 season.

Virat Kohli, after relinquishing the RCB and Team India captaincy last year, was expected to be at his best with the bat. But his performance in the IPL 2022 startled fans and experts alike, with many suggesting that he badly needs a break from the game. Although he scored 2 fifties in the 2022 season, those innings were few and far between.

The star batter could manage only 341 runs in 16 games at an ‘unlike Kohli’ average of 22.73. With the T20 World Cup just a few months away, his string of low scores is a huge concern for the Indian team. For the ‘Men in Blue’ to win the World Cup, it is imperative for the former skipper to return to his absolute best and the upcoming tour to England will be key in that regard.

Former India bowler RP Singh has made an interesting observation about the flamboyant cricketer. Virat is taking longer to recover from his slump, according to Singh, since he is playing more T20 cricket than ODI or Test cricket, where the opportunity to take time to get settled is limited.

"His time is bad. The way he is getting out, it is strange the manner in which he is getting out. We've never seen Virat this way. This is a very big bad patch and with Virat, he has taken long to hit a bad form, so coming out of it is going to take equally long. In ODIs and Tests, you can consume balls and slowly get back to form. In T20s, you don't have that liberty," the former left-arm seamer told India TV.

The 33-year-old is expected to return to international cricket with the England tour where they play one Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is. Returning to form, according to Singh, takes time, and Kohli is no exception.

"If you have to come to form, you can start by scoring 60 off 50-55 balls. You can't expect to score 100 off 55 balls. You have to spend time and take singles, doubles. Coming back to form isn't easy because he has been dominating for years. Virat must be wondering himself that 'I used to dominate once but now get out whenever ball touches the bat'. He has taken the right method but the format is wrong," the former India pacer added.
