Marnus Labuschagne talked about tackling the spin challenge when Sri Lanka hosts Australia In a two-match Test series slated for later this month, with the tour also consisting of three T20Is and five ODI matches.
Australia will want to score as many points as possible in the ODI format in order to improve its position in the ODI Super League.
However, the two Test matches, which will mark Australia's first visit to Sri Lanka in the current World Test Championship. After two amazing series against England and Pakistan, the Pat Cummins-led squad sits atop the table and will play their first Test matches.
Marnus Labuschagne, who is the no.1 ranked ICC batter, will be under a lot of pressure and he has indicated before the series that he will take a page out of England batter Joe Root's book when it comes to dealing with spin in Sri Lanka.
Root scored 228 runs in the first Test against Sri Lanka in 2021 and then added another 186 runs in the first innings in the second Test.
"For me, it's my first real subcontinent challenge against spin, it's about conquering that challenge. Joe Root played phenomenally over there, I've learned a lot from how he went about his game there,” Labuschagne told BBC Sport Wales.
The Test against Sri Lanka will be a big one for Australia, who faced Pakistan in flat conditions. Labuschagne discussed differences between the conditions he played in Pakistan, where the surfaces were flat, and now will face Sri Lanka on pitches that turn.
He also talked about the difference in climate between the UK, where he was playing county cricket, and the hot and humid atmosphere in Sri Lanka.
"As a team we want to be the best in the world, it doesn't matter where you take us, we want to be winning games and I certainly think we can do that in Sri Lanka. I'll have to get used to the conditions, the heat, and sweating it out, which is something we haven't had the last few games [in the UK]." the batter said.
