Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named the Test captain of the side after Mominul Haque had resigned from the job citing that it was affecting his batting.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board re-appointed Shakib Al Hasan as captain, while Liton Das has been named his deputy.
Incidentally, Shakib was Bangladesh Test captain when Mominul took over from him after he was suspended by the ICC for not reporting corrupt approaches in 2019. In his stint, Mominul led his side to three Test victories - including the historic one in New Zealand, two draws and 12 defeats in 17 fixtures.
"Three names were proposed. We had previously decided that we would have a vice-captain along with a new captain. So we have selected Shakib as the new captain and Litton as his deputy. They will carry out the responsibilities until further announcement," Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, said in a press conference.

However, the all-rounder has only played five of Bangladesh's last 13 Tests. But Nazmul Hassan said that he'll be available for selection in the West Indies Tests.
"As far as I know, he'll play [in the West Indies]. After the series, there is a series against Zimbabwe. He is doubtful for that series. So, it's difficult to say for how long Shakib will remain the captain of the Test team," he said.
Shakib has had two previous stints as Test captain. He was first appointed Test skipper in 2009 when Mashrafe Mortaza was injured in West Indies. He was then handed the reigns in 2017, replacing Mushfiqur Rahim. Shakib was relieved of captaincy in 2011. The all-rounder was named the captain of the Test and T20I sides in December 2017.
Shakib has so far captained Bangladesh in 14 Tests. Bangladesh won three Tests under his captaincy. In these 14 outings, Shakib scored 918 runs at 35.3 and took 61 wickets.
