Following Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Vaughan of England backed Hardik Pandya to lead India in white-ball cricket in near future.
If the Indian selectors are looking for someone to head the team in a few years, Vaughan believes they should not "look past" Hardik, who led Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2022 title in their debut season.
GT finished the league stage on top of the table with 20 points and went on to win the tournament by defeating Rajasthan Royals twice, first in Qualifier 1 and then in the grand finale.
Hardik took everything he learned from his time with the Mumbai Indians and applied it to the Gujarat Titans, according to Vaughan.

"Fantastic achievement for a new franchise … If India need a captain in a couple of years, I wouldn’t look past @hardikpandya7 … Well done, Gujurat," Vaughan tweeted.
Hardik, who had a fantastic season with both bat and ball, became only the third captain in IPL history to earn Player of the Match in the final, joining Anil Kumble and Rohit Sharma.
In the final, he took the wickets of Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Shimron Hetmyer, as well as scoring 34 runs with the bat to help his team win.
Hardik won his fifth championship as a player. With Mumbai Indians, he won four IPL titles.
Hardik will return to the Indian team after a brief hiatus to play South Africa in a five-match T20I series. The series will begin on June 9 in New Delhi with the first match.
