There has been a lot of speculation that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman will travel to Ireland with Team India for the T20I series next month, as the head coach Rahul Dravid will be with the Test squad for the upcoming England tour which will happen simultaneously.
Well, on May 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally confirmed that Laxman will travel to Ireland with the T20I squad, while Dravid will travel to England with the Test squad.
The Indian team is scheduled to play two T20Is in Dublin on June 26 and 28, at the same time, the Indian team will be playing a four-day practice match against Leicestershire ahead of their rescheduled fifth Test against England, which will be played in Birmingham from July 1.
Given the clash between the Ireland and England tours, Laxman was asked to take charge of the Indian team on the Ireland tour in the absence of Dravid, with the head coach leaving for England with another team for a bilateral series in July 2022.
As reported by Cricbuzz, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, stated: “He (VVS Laxman) will travel with the Indian team to Dublin.”
However, the Indian team for the Ireland tour hasn’t yet been announced, but the T20I squad is expected to leave for the short tour immediately after the completion of the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa on June 19.
