Daniel Vettori appointed as assistant coach of Australia team

New Zealand's Daniel Vettori was selected as an assistant to Andrew McDonald, the head coach of the Australian cricket team, alongside Andre Borovec, on Tuesday, who said that the knowledge and experience of the former captain of New Zealand would be a valuable asset for the team.

Often regarded as one of the best all-rounders of his time, Vettori played 113 Tests, 295 ODIs, and 34 T20Is for New Zealand. He also has previous experience of working in close association with McDonald for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Speaking of the Australian squad, Vettori said, "It's a very strong and unified group which has the potential to have a very rewarding and hopefully successful period ahead."

Vettori will continue with his role as the head coach of the Birmingham Phoenix of England's The Hundred cricket league.

Andre Borovec, the Assistant Coach of Victoria cricket team has also been appointed as an assistant and is all set to coach Australia A in Sri Lanka, prior to their two-match Test series there. These appointments came into effect after McDonald was named head coach on 13th of April after Justin Langer decided to step down.

Speaking of Borovec, McDonald said, "Andre has been fantastic for the group when he has been involved as an extremely skilled and experienced high-performance coach. He is a great fit culturally and brings the skills to complement our high-performance specialists."

Opening up on his experience of working with Vettori, he said, "I have worked with Daniel previously and could not speak more highly of his approach, work ethic and rapport he brings. His experience and balanced style are well documented. He is a great fit and will bring an enormous amount of knowledge to the team."

McDonald's team already boasts batting coach Michael Di Venuto, spin coach Sri Sriram, and former Test seam bowler Clint McKay.
