Deepak Chahar likely to be out of action for three months, says report

Chahar recently sustained a back injury during the rehab at NCA.

Deepak Chahar | GettyChennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back injury. The news of Chahar picking up a fresh injury emerged a few days back, while the IPL has confirmed his ruling out through a release.

After suffering a quadriceps injury during the T20I series between India and the West Indies in February, the Indian quick was recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he sustained a back injury during the rehab.

Meanwhile, a report published in Cricbuzz suggests that Chahar will be out of action in near future and his return to action is not likely at least for the next three months.

According to the report, sources associated with CSK and BCCI have revealed that Deepak Chahar will be out for the next 12 weeks, and it is unknown whether he will make it to the T20 World Cup squad later this year.

As per NCA’s letter to the CSK management and the BCCI, Deepak Chahar has picked an L5 injury to his back and the recovery is not possible anytime soon. In fact, his rehab will start after six weeks of complete rest.

“After a hamstring injury (sustained during a T20 game at the Eden in Kolkata against West Indies), he had been undergoing rehab at the NCA hoping to join his IPL franchise in the second half. But he developed back pain while bowling and tests have revealed that he has L5 issue in his lower back,” Cricbuzz quoted a CSK source as saying.

In the ongoing IPL, CSK are badly missing the services of Deepak Chahar, who is a potent swing bowler and a dangerous lower-order hitter.

Chahar has played 58 IPL matches for CSK between 2018 and 2021, claiming 58 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70. He was bought back by the Chennai-based franchise for a whopping sum of INR 14 crore at the IPL 2022 mega-auction in February.
