Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has made a shocking revelation about Pakistan’s last tour bilateral series in India in 2012-13. He revealed that the PCB had sent players along with their wives on the India tour to avoid any mishaps.

Notably, there have always been political differences between India and Pakistan. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13. They only meet at the multi-nation events hosted by ICC or ACC.

During an interaction with Cricket Pakistan, Zaka Ashraf revealed that the PCB had decided to send their wives along with the players on the India tour to avoid any mishap or controversy. He also revealed that during his tenure, the BCCI promised to tour Pakistan and play a bilateral series.

Ashraf told Cricket Pakistan: “During my tenure (as the president of the PCB) when our team went on a tour to India, I advised that the wives of the players will accompany them. The players made a slight objection but I said that their wives will keep a close check on the players. Eventually, everyone took it in a nice way and went to India.”

He concluded, “Everyone remained disciplined as, during previous tours, India would always try to trap us and tarnish the image of our players and country. This decision was taken so that no controversy could be created as Indian media is always on the lookout for that. So, we managed to avoid any controversy.”
