England captain Eoin Morgan severely criticized the Lord's
wicket after his team were humiliated by South Africans in the 3rd
match of the ODI series on Monday.
England were reduced to 20/6 in 5 overs, which is the
quickest 6 wicket collapse in ODI history by South Africans. Morgan didn't seem
happy with the track at Lord's and said,"
I don't think it was an ODI wicket. It makes it one-sided which I don't think
is good for anybody. There was a lot of live, green grass on the wicket, we saw
the shots they played when they batted. We couldn't play shots like that early
this morning."
He said that toss pretty much decided the fate of the game, "It was disproportionately important (to win
the toss) and went a long way towards deciding the game".
Morgan said that if England encounters such wickets in ICC
Champions Trophy 2017, he will be disappointed. He didn't mince words about the
loss to South Africa and said, "In The
Rose Bowl we were 37 after 10 overs and still posted over 300, today was just
not our day. Not a concern at all. We didn't play too aggressively. A lot of
our shots were defensive shots. When it moves around like that, you nick the
half-volleys."
