Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Friday (18th March) talked about his relationship with MS Dhoni. He said that he has mutual respect for the ex-skipper and if in need he’ll stand by him always.

Both Gambhir and Dhoni have played a pivotal role in making the Indian team a powerhouse in the cricketing world. The duo played an instrumental role in ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 triumphs.

However, the southpaw has often been at the receiving end of criticism whenever he has talked about Dhoni. Gambhir has been very vocal in the media about subjects related to World Cup 2011.

The Lucknow Super Giants mentor has now rubbished all the rumours that he doesn't like Dhoni and the relationship between the two former India teammates is not good.

Speaking to Jatin Sapru on his show Over & Out, Gautam Gambhir said that he has a lot of respect for MS Dhoni and if ever in need, he'll be the first person to stand by the former Indian skipper.

"I have lots of mutual respect for MS Dhoni. I have said it on air, I can say it anywhere in front of 138 crore people, if ever in need, I hope he's never in need in life but if he is ever in need, I will be the first person standing next to him because of what he has done for Indian cricket and what he is as a human being," he said.

Gambhir talked about being Dhoni's vice-captain, saying that while they had different opinions on certain things, they never lost their mutual respect.

“You might look at the game in a different way, I might look at it in a different way. I have got my own opinions, he has got his own opinions. I have been the vice-captain (Of the Indian team) for the longest time when he was the captain and never has it been the case. Even when we have played for our respective teams it was never the case," he remarked.

Both Gambhir and Dhoni will be seen during the IPL 2022. While the southpaw will mentor new franchise Lucknow Super Giants, the wicketkeeper batter will captain Chennai Super Kings.
