The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to extend the jersey sponsorship contract of BYJU's by one year. The extension with the Bangalore-based multinational educational tech company was approved by the Apex Council of the BCCI recently.
The BYJU's deal was to end, otherwise, after the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
"The agreement has been renewed for another year. It would have ended after the current series," multiple BCCI members told Cricbuzz.
BYJU's had come on board as the jersey sponsors in 2019 after having replaced Chinese handset company Oppo. The deal had begun in September 2019.
After the transfer of the sponsorship rights from Oppo, BYJU's has been paying BCCI INR 4.61 crore for a bilateral game and Rs 1.56 for an international fixture. Cricbuzz reached out to BYJU's officials and promoters over the development.
The BCCI apex council also passed a resolution on the venues for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
"The BCCI is hosting South Africa for 5 T20 Internationals in the month of June. The venues which have missed out on hosting the T20Is as per the BCCI rotation policy are - Cuttack, Vizag, Trivandrum, Mohali. However, as per the rotation policy, the venues falling for the upcoming series are - Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Rajkot, and Delhi.
Mohali and Bengaluru are hosting a Test match each in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka while Trivandrum (KCA) has requested to allot a match in the September-October window as they expect rainfall in June. We, therefore, are requesting the following venues for the forthcoming home series against South Africa - Cuttack, Vizag, Delhi, Rajkot, and Chennai,” the resolution stated.
The Apex Council resolution added, "The venues which are missing out - Trivandrum, Mohali, Bengaluru, and Nagpur -- will be adjusted in the next home series during the September-October window."
